Hiking Tips:
- Carry plenty of water for the day, drink often to stay hydrated.
- Small snacks will keep your energy level up rather than waiting for a big lunch meal after you've emptied your body's reserves.
- Leave No Trace - carry out any trash with you.
- Bring a hat to prevent sunburn, and use sunscreen even on cloudy or cold days.
- Organized your pack, put items back where you expect to find them.
- Repackage and bring one-day portion sizes to reduce weight.
- Tie a bandanna to your pack strap for a quick wipe of your brow if needed.
- Inspect your medications, emergency, and first aid kits before each hike.
- Keep yourself and your gear dry.
- Bring along and use raingear.
- Use trek poles to prevent your hands from swelling by keeping your hands elevated.
- Take a photo ID, insurance card, and credit card on the trail.
- You may see rock cairns, piles of rocks, along the trail. Don't destroy them, but don't add to them either.
